The UCI School of Medicine Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care – Training and Education in Addiction Medicine (PC-TEAM) Fellowship is a one-year training program designed for primary care providers working in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology or Pharmacy. The target audiences for the program are MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs and PharmDs.

We train primary care providers to:

• Complete an evidence-based substance use screening in busy primary care or other general medical settings.
• Effectively prevent, diagnose, and treat commonly encountered substance use and pain-related disorders (e.g., opioids, alcohol, stimulants, and benzodiazepines).
• Teach these principles to their primary care colleagues

TNT PC-TEAM Fellowship Meets MATE Act Requirement

We are excited to announce that the Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Training and Education in Addiction Medicine (PC-TEAM) Fellowship curriculum meets the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act 8-hour training requirement on opioid or other substance use disorders and the appropriate treatment plan. Certification of this training requirement is due upon your next DEA renewal after June 2023.

At the end of the fellowship, the fellow will receive a final CME certificate with all the CME credits listed and indicating that these activities “satisfy the 8-hour training as required by the MATE Act”.

Note that training in this Fellowship takes place largely outside of normal clinic hours and is not a traditional or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-approved fellowship.
